Many people are unsure as to how hypnosis &#8220;fits&#8221; with their faith, values or morals. The fact is that hypnotherapy, in and of itself, does not contradict a person&#8217;s faith. The fear which some people have is in fact caused by a misunderstanding of what hypnosis is.</p>
<p>Many people think that hypnosis is some sort of dark power which can take over your mind and make you<span id="more-372"></span> do things which are contrary to your morals or your faith. This is not the case. Hypnosis will not make you do things that you do not want to do; it does not take over your mind in any dark or sinister way. </p>
<p>Rather, hypnosis is a natural state of relaxation, like meditation. When I say natural, I mean exactly that. You already use hypnosis without even knowing that you do so. You pass through hypnosis as you go to sleep and as you wake up. When using hypnotherapy the only difference is that you are intentionally guiding your mind into that same natural state and utilizing that state to achieve whatever you may wish to.</p>
<p>Hypnosis is anything other than a dark or sinister force. It is an enlightening and enabling state of mind. You may well ask why I say this. At night when you sleep your brain waves change from beta to alpha and theta. When you dream your mind is in fact doing a very important job; that of resolving and unconscious conflicts. <p>
Thinning hair and progressive baldness is something that can seriously affect self image and self esteem in both men and women.</p>
<p>With men, however, it is something that is more or less accepted as a natural occurrence by society at large. In fact, about fifty percent of the general population experience normal hair loss by the time they reach 50 years old. We may not<span id="more-370"></span> like it, but sooner or later half of us are forced to accept it.</p>
<p>Hair loss in women, though, is often perceived in a much different way.</p>
<p>Male pattern baldness is an all too common phenomenon which at the moment has no known cure. It is something that is determined largely by genetics.</p>
<p>Its development can however be slowed down with the correct treatment. Read on for more information on this.</p>
<p>Alopecia is a form of hair loss that is a medical condition. It can occur at any age, though it generally affects females more than males.</p>
<p>There are several variations of alopecia:</p>
<p>Androgenic Alopecia</p>
<p>As mentioned above, this is the variation of alopecia which is commonly known as &#8216;male pattern baldness&#8217;. Often hereditary, this condition can in fact affect both sexes.</p>
<p>Treatment to slow down androgenic alopecia is available. Applying minoxidil (Rogaine) to the surface area and taking finasteride (Propecia) orally have proven to be beneficial here. So if this condition is affecting you, be sure to consult your doctor or health advisor about possible treatment.</p>
<p>Natural approaches that have proved successful in preliminary studies include saw palmetto and beta-sitosterol. Consult your health food store for more information on these particular supplements.</p>
<p>Alopecia Areata</p>
<p>This is patchy hair loss, affecting different sections of the head, which tends to affect teenagers and young adults more than older people.</p>
<p>This can be a hereditary condition and for many &#8211; but not all &#8211; is unsightly and embarrassing but temporary, generally lasting about a year. Changes of hormone levels during pregnancy can sometimes trigger the condition.</p>
<p>Alopecia Totalis</p>
<p>Some sufferers of alopecia areata continue to lose hair until they have none left on the scalp. This is known as alopecia totalis.</p>
<p>Alopecia Universalis</p>
<p>As the name suggests, alopecia universalis is the term given to loss of all bodily hair.</p>
<p>Telogen Effluvium</p>
<p>Temporary thinning of the hair, telogen effluvium is not restricted to the scalp and can affect all bodily hair growth. This condition can last for a few months and may be caused by certain medications.</p>
<p>Be sure to check with your doctor if you are taking medication which appears to increase your hair loss.</p>
<p>Hair Loss due to Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy.</p>
<p>Many people receiving treatment for cancer often experience total hair loss. Because this is a widely experienced and well known side effect, specialist support and wigs are available which can help until the hair regrows.</p>
<p>Hair Loss due to Hairdressing Treatments</p>
<p>Excessive use of chemicals, or a bad reaction to the chemicals used in hair treatments such as permanents, can result in hair loss. It can also be brought on by long term frequent use of overly hot implements such as hair straighteners and curling tongs. In the latter case the hair cuticle will often become brittle causing it to break. Most people who experience hair loss due to hairdressing will find re-growth once they stop using the trigger items.</p>
<p>Hair Loss in Children</p>
<p>Children can suffer from alopecia areata and any bald patches should be reported to a doctor promptly in order to begin treatment. Children may be referred on to a dermatologist specializing in hair loss.</p>
<p>Hair loss in children can be caused by trauma of the scalp and hair because of hair being too tightly pulled or plaited over a long period of time.</p>
<p>A more common reason is a fungal infection called tinea capitis which can affect head hair, eyebrows and eyelashes. When noticed, the child should be seen by a doctor.</p>
<p>Prevention and Treatment</p>
<p>In addition to the above mentioned medically prescribed pharmaceuticals and natural supplements it is wise to cover all bases.</p>
<p>Research has shown that some forms of hair loss can be caused by a lack of vitamins and minerals in the diet. This being the case, it is prudent to ensure that a healthy and varied diet is eaten. However if hair loss starts to occur despite healthy eating then a doctor can refer you for vitamin deficiency tests.</p>
<p>It may also be that a separate condition or medication could be preventing the body from absorbing vitamins and minerals from the food being eaten. Again, consult with your doctor in order to determine if this is in fact the case.</p>
<p>Stress is a recognised trigger for hair loss and this is especially so with alopecia areata. In this case, prevention of further hair loss means examining and managing daily stress levels as much as possible.</p>

<p>Self diagnosis is, however, not the ideal way to treat your specific hair loss type. If you are experiencing excessive hair loss it would be wise to see a doctor who can arrange tests and if necessary get treatment started, or refer you on to a specialist.</p>
<p>Knowing the medical definition of your particular hair loss is one thing, but coping with it emotionally can be very difficult and support is often critical.</p>
<p>It helps enormously if there is acceptance and understanding from the sufferer&#8217;s family and friends. This is extremely helpful as hair loss can seriously undermine the sufferer&#8217;s sense of worthiness, attractiveness etc and can even result in severe depression. If this is the case, then your doctor should be able to refer you for counseling, self help groups or a wig service.</p>

<p>As you get older you realize how quickly time goes by. Years seem to scamper past and suddenly the kids are fully grown, the mortgage has been paid off and you wonder how it all happened. You remember those long summers which you experienced as a child; days which seemed to go on and on forever. And yet now, several years can seem to pass in what seems to be a shorter<span id="more-369"></span> period of time.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s easy to look back and wonder what you have done with your life. In hindsight you can decide whether you did spend your time wisely or not. But at the time when life is happening, you can get so tied up in the trivia of daily life that you forget to plan for the really important things. You write a list when you go shopping for groceries, or one when you are packing to go on holiday. But do you write down the most important things?</p>
<p>Do you write down things like showing appreciation and love to your spouse every day? Do you plan to enjoy preparing meals or walking the dog, or do you just do these things? Do you spend quality time with your parents or grandparents? Many things get lost at the back of your mind as you focus on certain things which seem so very important at the time. But are they really that important? Have you got your priorities right?</p>
<p>If you haven&#8217;t prioritized then you may look back and think that you have wasted an awful lot of time. To spend time identifying what is most important to you and planning to invest in those things is time spent well; it is time being invested in the things which feel worthwhile to you.</p>
<p>The very most important thing to invest in, most people will agree, is your close relationships. Other things matter a lot as well, but rarely does anything affect your happiness and well-being as much as your closest relationships do. And yet many of us will hold up our hands and admit that these relationships are frequently taken for granted. Often your relationship has become stale and mundane before you realize that there is something amiss.</p>
<p>Anyone can re-generate love in their relationship so long as they wish to do so and focus upon doing so. It may take a little time and effort, but it is a good investment and the effort isn&#8217;t really that great when you stop to think about it. Surely it&#8217;s not a hardship to reach out and stroke your spouse&#8217;s hand from time to time, or to focus a smile into their eyes, is it? Or to go to bed earlier than usual with the intention of snuggling up close together? Or cuddling on the sofa whilst watching a movie?</p>

<p>There&#8217;s nothing worse than having to get up in the morning after a sleepless night, trying to go about your day to day tasks, feeling as if you are running on an empty tank; you can&#8217;t think straight, your body feels heavy and all you want to do is curl up in a ball and sleep. And yet, by the time darkness falls, your body seems to waken up and you just know that yet<span id="more-368"></span> another sleepless night awaits you. A self-fulfilling prophesy then ensues.</p>
<p>Some people get to sleep and then awaken after an hour or so, wide awake and alert for the remaining hours before dawn, sleepiness returning at dawn, just when you need to get up. Others simply cannot get to sleep. There are many variations of sleep disturbances, but whatever your particular pattern is, the effect on your day to day life is extremely debilitating.</p>
<p>In an ideal world, the norm is to go to bed at night, fall asleep within a few minutes and awaken approximately seven and a half hours later. For some people it&#8217;s less, for some slightly more, but this is the average time required in sleep. As you sleep your brain wave patterns alter from the normal beta pattern of waking consciousness to the alpha waves of deep relaxation and on to the delta waves of sleep and the theta waves of REM sleep (dreaming). In normal sleep your brain waves pass through a cycle which takes about 90 minutes for each one and then the next cycle occurs, and this keeps happening throughout the night.</p>
<p>The theta wave (REM) stage of sleep is so essential to our well being that should you be deprived of it for very long you would become psychotic. (I&#8217;m not making that up, or over dramatizing this effect &#8211; it has been shown in scientific research.) During this stage of REM sleep there is interaction between the different areas of your brain which allows conflicts to be resolved, and this is played out symbolically in your dreams. You may not be aware of dreaming, but be assured you do. When deprived of sleep, your brain will ensure that what sleep you do have involves as much theta wave time as possible as a matter of sheer survival.</p>
<p>So what has hypnosis got to do with all this? In hypnosis your brain wave patterns also alter from beta to alpha-theta. Hypnosis is normal and natural; it is that same state that you achieve when you are between wake and sleep whereby the alpha brain wave pattern may be observed. And as you go into deeper hypnotic states the theta wave pattern is evident. Thus by learning to use self-hypnosis, you are in effect also learning the art of getting to sleep. You can actually learn HOW to get to sleep simply by listening to a hypnosis download.</p>
<p>For most of us we just go to sleep and we wake up and we have absolutely no idea of how it actually happens. For those who have lain awake, tossing and turning our way through the night, there is now an easy (and natural) solution; Armed with the knowledge of how our brain waves alter in sleep and that this is shown to be similar whilst in hypnosis, we now know HOW we can learn to get to sleep.</p>
<p>Most people do not realize what hypnosis actually is and so are afraid of it. Golf is a game and should be fun. Fun is what it&#8217;s all about; playing a great game with a few pals. No matter how good a golfer you are and no matter how important your golf may have become to you, it&#8217;s still a game and should be enjoyed in the spirit of the game. It&#8217;s a recreational activity, which you should find relaxing.</p>
<p>Do you find it relaxing?<span id="more-367"></span> Or do you find your emotions being affected in a rather different way as you play this great game? Do you find yourself hacking your golf clubs into the ground, or slinging them across the fairway? Do you find yourself muttering four letter words under your breath (or out loud)?</p>
<p>We all have caricatures in our minds of the true &#8220;Mr. Angry&#8221;. Are you a &#8220;Mr. Angry golfer?&#8221; If so, would it be handy to be able to change?</p>
<p>Anger is a normal and usually healthy human emotion. When anger is controlled, or managed, it will not cause you, or anyone around you, any harm. But when it is out of control it will become destructive. Uncontrolled anger is a major cause of conflict in both personal and professional relationships, on an off the golf course.</p>
<p>Anger is an emotional state which may vary in intensity and which is accompanied by physiological and biological changes &#8211; your heart rate increases, blood pressure rises, adrenaline is secreted at a greater level. Not very helpful when you&#8217;re trying to play a game that requires a state of relaxed concentration in order to be able to put your best swing on the golf ball.</p>
<p>Anger is caused by your own perception of events, whether that event is happening now, or in the past, or you are anticipating a future event. It is important that you understand this fact. You create your own anger. Your golf ball may have found its way into the trees, or a plugged lie; there may be a lack of baskets at the range or the tee box may not be level&#8230;but &#8220;it&#8221; did not make you angry&#8230;You did.</p>
<p>You will no doubt have wondered how some golfers remain calm, or even laugh, no matter what happens to their ball whilst others &#8220;blow&#8221; or &#8220;flip&#8221; at the slightest thing. The difference is that some people have learnt to manage their anger, whilst others have given in to it.</p>
<p>You have probably watched &#8220;Fawlty Towers&#8221; and laughed at Basil&#8217;s antics. But isn&#8217;t the entire series based on taking off mismanaged anger and frustration? And the exaggerated body language demonstrates beautifully the actual effect of anger &#8211; raised voice, jerky movements, clenched fists, and&#8230;a direction for the anger &#8211; usually Manuel or Mrs. Fawlty&#8230;and the disastrous results that are achieved reflect the destructive effect of uncontrolled anger.</p>
<p>And the equivalent of Basil in golf can be equally amusing some of the time&#8230;or perhaps embarrassing, depending on how you see it. The direction for the anger is usually the ball, the clubs, the nearest gorse bush, and so on. In extreme cases the entire trolley and clubs have been known to be launched into water and never retrieved!</p>
<p>The question is how have those non-angry people learnt to manage their anger? How can &#8220;Basil&#8221; learn to manage his anger? And, more importantly, do you want to control your anger? Because if you don&#8217;t want to, you won&#8217;t even try. Everyone can change so long as they want to. You&#8217;re not born angry, you just haven&#8217;t learnt how to manage your anger.</p>
